JoPACC trains CBOs, Youth Centers and local communities on mobile wallets across several governorates

In continuation of the Jordan Payment and Clearing Company’s (JoPACC) endeavors to spread awareness on mobile wallets and facilitate access to comprehensive and reliable information about the use of wallets, and in the context of continuous cooperation with local and international entities and organizations to disseminate knowledge and empower mobile wallets customers and encourage the active and responsible use of these financial accounts, JoPACC held training sessions, some of which were online, for a number of community-based organizations (CBOs) and youth centers in cooperation with SEP and with the Water Innovation Technologies Project that is implemented by Mercy Corps and funded by USAID and SEP in five governorates; Irbid, Jerash, Ajloun, Mafraq, and Zarqa.

The training addressed basic information on a mobile wallet account, terms of use, and the steps of registering in it online. It also provided a detailed explanation about its multiple uses and features, as well as fees for financial transactions and their limits. The training covered the types of wallets and the companies that offer this service, highlighting the role of the Central Bank of Jordan in licensing and overseeing these companies and protecting citizens' funds.

The attendees varied between users and non-users of mobile wallets, and they showed interest in using mobile wallets as financial accounts for institutions through which financial transactions can be monitored and the instant fund transfers can be made. A mobile wallet is an electronic financial account used through a mobile application to transfer and receive money, pay bills, save, shop online, and other financial uses. Every person, whether Jordanian or non-Jordanian, has the right to open a maximum of two wallets on two different mobile numbers. The number of wallets used in Jordan reached over 1 million and 135 thousand wallets by the beginning of September 2020.

In the context of the collaboration with SEP, a social enterprise that employs refugee women in the Gaza camp in Jerash by producing embroidered products, JoPACC has trained over 250 women on the use of wallets. In addition, JoPACC collaborated with Orange Money and Madfooatcom on designing an incentives and rewards program for women in the camp to encourage their active use of wallets.
